Rubina Francis, an outstanding para pistol shooter from Jabalpur, has been selected for the prestigious Arjuna Award as the National Sports Awards announced by the Ministry of Sports. Rubina made history at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, winning a bronze medal and becoming the first Indian female para-athlete to secure a medal in pistol shooting at the Paralympics.

Her remarkable achievement has brought immense pride to Jabalpur and the entire nation. Rubina’s journey began in 2015 when the Gun for Glory Shooting Academy, Jabalpur, conducted a talent search at her school. Recognising her potential, the academy encouraged her to pursue a career in shooting. Despite limited resources and numerous challenges, Rubina’s success is a testament to the power of determination and proper guidance in achieving dreams. Rubina is the first para shooter from Madhya Pradesh and Jabalpur to be honoured with the Arjuna Award. She will receive the award from the President of India at a ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 17.
