The Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) has decided to establish Students Facilitation Centre at all the districts under its ambit. The university had initiated the idea following the recommendations by the committee constituted by the Senate. Nagpur already has a facilitation centre which is run by Promarc. Similar centres will be set up at Bhandara, Gondia, Wardha and Katol which are under the ambit of RTMNU, don’t have such centre.
Senate Member Vishnu Changde had moved four proposals on the basis of which RTMNU has decided to establish similar centre, one each in the district where all facilities would be provided to students under one roof.
A meeting in this regard was convened on Friday where it was decided to set up the centres
at Katol, Wardha, Bhandara, Gondia districts.
The centre at Nagpur being run by Mayur
Katyayan at RTMNU examination centre free of cost and evoking good response. On the basis of the centre, these facilitation centres are to be designed.
With the opening of these centres students would not have to visit Nagpur for their works. Students can get their certificates like migration, eligibility, degree, transcript from their taluka or district places.
RTMNU has one main centre at Nagpur where students from other districts, taluka places can not come frequently. They can not participate in various activities conducted by the centre. If the sub-centres are established in districts, the respective sub-heads can organise cultural and other activities to make students take part in those. It will help students to develop their personalities.
Changde said, “There are 3 lakh students studying in more than 500 colleges. If the children have sports centre in their own places, then they can enhance their quality in respective games.
These sports centre will facilitate players to develop himself or herself as a sportsperson. Such activities can be conducted by these facilitation centre. We can not call it as sub-centre now.”
“Nagpur has huge library but students from remote areas do not have access. A state-of-the art library with 1,000 sitting capacity should be developed at every district which can be a part of this facilitation centre. Initially instead of setting up library, university is contemplating to start reading room,” explained Adv Manmohan Bajpayee.
Senate member Roshni Khelkar in a recently concluded Senate meeting had raised the issue and sought to know the status of these proposals.
A committee was constituted under the Chairmanship of Dr Dattatray Watmode, the then Dean of Humanities with Dr Mangesh Pathak, Director of Students Welfare; Dr Sharad Suryavanshi, Director, Sports and Physical Education Department, RTMNU as members. Dr Vijay Khandal, Director of Knowledge Resource Centre was its Member Secretary. Except Dr Khandal others’ tenures have ended.
