A family’s vacation to Rajasthan turned into a nightmare when their house in Wardhaman Nagar, Nagpur, was robbed in their absence. The thief, who reportedly entered the house by breaking a window grill, managed to decamp with gold ornaments, cash, and foreign currency worth approximately Rs eight lakh. In a bid to cover his tracks, the thief also stole the DVR of the CCTV camera system and left no evidence behind.
The incident came to light on Saturday morning when Dr
Jugal Vrundavan Tapadia, a
resident of Plot No 83, near Shreyas Garden, Wardhaman Nagar, was informed by his gardener about the broken window grill at his residence.
Dr Tapadia, who had been away in Rajasthan since Friday, immediately asked his relative, Jitesh Nathmal Maheshwari, to inspect the house.
Upon arrival, Jitesh discovered the window grill had been forcibly broken and further inspection revealed that the house had been ransacked. The thief had thrown clothes and other household items around in a hurried search for valuables. Among the items stolen were gold ornaments weighing 3.5 tolas, Rs four lakh in cash, US Dollars worth Rs 1.38 lakh, and Canadian Dollars worth
Rs 18,000.
Staff from Lakadganj Police Station arrived at the crime scene.
Upon investigation, they confirmed that the thief had also taken the DVR. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS, and further investigations are underway.
