WASHIM,
Washim district continues its journey towards renewable energy and agricultural empowerment. The second solar energy project in Umbarda Bazar under the ambitious Mukhyamantri Solar Krishi Vahini Yojana 2.0 has become operational. This initiative aims to ensure uninterrupted power supply for agricultural pumps during the day, addressing the long-standing challenges faced by farmers.
Under the scheme, 37 substations in Washim district have been identified for solar projects, targeting a total electricity generation of 155 MW. After the successful launch of the first solar energy project in Hisai, the Umbarda Bazar project became operational within a month, benefitting over 1,700 farmers in the region.
The Umbarda Bazar solar project, with a capacity of 4 MW, is spread across 19 acres and was inaugurated virtually by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on December 24.
Farmers, now, enjoy 8 hours of uninterrupted electricity during the day, enabling efficient irrigation and reducing the burden of nighttime operations. Previously, farmers had to work at night due to load-shedding, facing challenges such as extreme fatigue and risks of wildlife attacks in forest-adjacent areas.
The project has brought a wave of relief and optimism among farmers, who can now irrigate their fields safely and conveniently.
Raj Choudhary, Sarpanch of Umbarda Bazar, expressed gratitude on behalf of the village, emphasising how the scheme has transformed agricultural practices and improved the quality of life for farmers. In the coming year, over 20 additional solar energy projects are planned for Washim district, covering a total of 1,254 acres allocated under the scheme. This initiative is expected to resolve the issue of irregular power supply for agricultural pumps, enhance productivity, and boost the income of farmers. With these projects, Washim district is not only embracing renewable energy but also ensuring a brighter and more prosperous future for its farming community, fulfilling the vision of the CM Solar Krishi Vahini Scheme.
