IPS Amit Kumar awarded President’s Police Medal

 

 

IPS Amit Kumar, a 1998-batch officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre, has been conferred with the prestigious President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Indian law enforcement. The award was presented by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at a ceremony held in New Delhi on Tuesday, where Kumar was lauded for his dedication and impactful career. The medal recognises Amit Kumar’s exemplary service during his 12-year tenure with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), where he held key roles as Superintendent of Police (SP), Deputy Inspector General (DIG), and Joint Director. His most recent posting in the CBI was as Joint Director (Policy), where he spearheaded reforms and policy initiatives, leaving a lasting impact on the nation’s premier investigative agency.

 

Adding to his illustrious career, official sources highlighted, “As SP, Amit Kumar dealt with several Naxalite cases from 2000 to 2010 and supervised investigations into Special Crime, NRHM, and the Coal Scam after joining the CBI in 2011. He also pioneered the Cybercrime Branch and coordinated UNCAC and FATF sessions during his tenure as Joint Director (Policy).” In Chhattisgarh, Amit Kumar has made significant contributions to both urban and rural policing.

 

Known for his adept leadership in the insurgency-hit Bastar region and urban districts like Durg and Raipur, he has played a crucial role in strengthening law enforcement and public safety. His strategic acumen in counter-insurgency operations and urban policing frameworks remains highly regarded. Since January 2023, Amit Kumar has been serving as Additional Director General (Intelligence) for the Chhattisgarh Police. His appointment came shortly after the Vishnu Dev Sai-led government assumed power, reflecting confidence in his capabilities to head the state’s intelligence operations during a critical juncture. “Amit Kumar’s exemplary service reflects his unwavering dedication to the nation and law enforcement. He is a shining example of professionalism and integrity, inspiring the next generation of officers,” remarked a retired senior IPS officer.
