An investigation into the suicide of the Moncriff couple in Martin Nagar revealed that Anee (45) and Jeril (56) had been planning their suicide for the last six months. This was the reason they threw a large party for their relatives on their wedding anniversary. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone V, Niketan Kadam, informed that the couple had been planning their suicide for the past six months. They had been telling their friends and family that they would soon be leaving the house to serve society. However, no one suspected their statements. Now, their friends are connecting the dots between these old statements and the big party they hosted on their wedding anniversary. “The wedding anniversary party they had seemed like their last farewell to their friends and relatives,” a relative told the police during questioning, visibly emotional.

 

DCP Kadam further informed that the family was not facing any financial hardship, as they had a substantial amount of money in the bank and were living off the interest. They had been living a middle-class lifestyle, he stated. He also revealed that a few months ago, Anee had undergone an operation to remove a tumor the size of a football from her uterus. Since then, she had been suffering from pain. Jeril was also suffering from a stomach ulcer, he added. There appear to be multiple reasons behind their suicide, stated DCP Kadam. As they mentioned in their final video call, they had enjoyed their lives enough, and were now preparing to die and bid farewell to their families. This suggests that childlessness may have been one of the contributing factors to their decision, he stated.

 

It may be mentioned that Anee and Jeril were found dead in their home on Tuesday morning. Before ending their lives, the couple recorded a video on their mobile phone and expressed their intent to take their own lives. This video was shared on their social media status and sent to some relatives. Upon discovering the video on Tuesday morning, their concerned relatives rushed to the couple’s residence and made the grim discovery. They celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary for about two days. All relatives and acquaintances were invited. There was also a celebration on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
