SWIMMERS from Shark Sporting Association won medals in the recently concluded 4th National Ocean Swimming Championship which was organised by Shri Ram Swimming Club at Porbandar, Gujarat.
Vanya Raut won silver medal while Bhavi Rajgira claimed a bronze in the event.
In the Under-14 age group, disabled swimmer Lavanya won the silver medal by completing the 5-kilometre distance in two hours and 36 minutes.
She finished 4th in the 1-km ocean swimming competition by completing it in 23 minutes.
In the Under-10 girls’ category, Bhavi covered a distance of 1 km in 21 minutes and 23 seconds, securing third place.
In the women’s category, Dr Sunita Dhote was honoured with a trophy for successfully completing the 10-km distance.
Dr Dhote, a 52-year-old professor at Ramdeobaba University, School of Management, thus added another remarkable accomplishment to her illustrious journey.
Dr Dhote is the first woman from Central India to conquer the prestigious Ironman 70.3 triathlon. She has also represented India at the 15th FINA World Masters Swimming Championship in Montreal, Canada, competing in 1m, 3m, and high-board diving events. Additionally, she holds an international record for the longest distance cycling.
Shloka Vaidya, Kanak Chowkse, Rajendra Jaiswal, Dilip Bhoyar and Sanjay Batwe completed the 1, 5 and 10 km distances within the stipulated time.
Dr Dhote thanked Vice Chancellor Dr Rajesh Pande and Director of the School of Management Dr Chandan Vichoray for their unwavering encouragement. She attributed her success to the guidance of swimming coaches, Sanjay Batwe and Vishal Chandurkar, Dr Neena Sahu, Dr Shoeb, Dr Yogesh Satav, Dr Rajendra Jaiswal, Ganesh Kshirsagar, mother, Shalini Kshirsagar and husband Nitin Dhote.
