By Dheeraj Fartode:
THE top brass of city police has
planned to create a new Zone
6 to improve law enforcement
and reduce crime. This change
aims to ease the workload of
Zones 4 and 5, which handle
a high number of crimes. Right
now, the city has five police
zones, with the fifth zone created in 2016.
Zone 4 has the highest crime
rate, with many violent crimes
like murders and gang wars. It
includes Imambada,
Nandanvan, Sakkardara,
Wathoda, Ajni, Hudkeshwar,
and Beltarodi Police Stations.
In 2024, this zone recorded
2,691 crime cases. Under the
new plan, Wathoda and
Nandanvan will be moved to
Zone 5, and a new Pipla Police
Station will be set up. These
changes are expected to reduce
the crime burden in Zone 4 by
30% and lower the number of
reported cases to around 1,900
(year 2024 data).
Zone 5 currently includes Old
Kamptee, New Kamptee,
Kalamna, Pardi, Yashodhara
Nagar, Jaripatka, Koradi, and
Kapil Nagar Police Stations.
After restructuring, it will cover Bhandewadi, Wathoda,
Nandanvan, Kalamna, Pardi,
and Garoba Maidan Police
Stations. The crime count in
this zone is now 2,340 cases
but is expected to drop to
about 1,461.
Zone 6 will be created mostly from the current Zone 5. It
will include Old Kamptee, New
Kamptee, Yashodhara Nagar,
Jaripatka, Koradi, Kapil Nagar,
and Kanhan Police Stations.
The goal is to manage crime
more effectively by reducing
the pressure on busy zones.
A retired police official
stated that the success of these
changes will depend on proper implementation, enough
resources, and constant crime
monitoring. He said that
simply changing police zones
is not enough. More police
officers, community involvement, and proper use of modern technology like CCTV
cameras and crime data tracking are also needed. The proposal has been sent to the
Government for approval. If
accepted, the new zones will
be introduced soon and mark
a new step.
‘Include only part
of Khaparkheda in
city police limits’
THE city police have sent
a proposal to include the
area of Khaparkheda Police
Station within the city’s
police limits. However,
sources say that Guardian
Minister Chandrashekhar
Bawankule is not in favour
of this plan. Bawankule,
who lives near
Khaparkheda, has suggested that instead of
Khaparkheda, areas like
Khapa, Babulkheda,
Nanda, Bina Sangam, and
some other villages (part of
Khaparkheda police station jurisdiction) from his
Kamptee Legislative
Assembly constituency
should be included in the
city limits.
Waiting for approval from
Government: Jt CP Tamboli
JOINT Commissioner of Police (J oint
CP) Nisar Tamboli stated that the
restructuring of the zones has been proposed to improve crime control. The
proposal has been sent to the
Government, as it requires the creation
of new posts and infrastructure. If the
proposal is approved, the new zone will
be implemented.
