“India has a glorious history, where saints and spiritual leaders have guided the society with their teachings and actions. They have fought against social evils, raised awareness against superstition and worked towards eliminating discrimination and untouchability in the society. Saints like Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Sant Ravidas, Sant Kabir, Meera Bai and Sant Tukaram inspired people to follow the path of righteousness and social harmony. Their contributions have earned them a revered place in Indian society,” said President Droupadi Murmu while addressing a mass marriage programme of 251 couples organised on the initiative of Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri and Bageshwar Dham Jan Seva Samiti, on Wednesday. The President further said, “India is transitioning from “women development” to “women-led development.” It is the responsibility of every citizen to empower daughters and sisters by ensuring their education, healthcare and safety. Small efforts from each of us can make our daughters strong and self-reliant. She urged all women to continuously strive for education and self-sufficiency.

A strong and empowered woman leads to a stronger society and a stronger nation. “I am deeply pleased to be a part of this grand mass wedding ceremony held on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri. I pray that Lord Mahadev’s blessings remain with us all, guiding our nation and society towards progress and prosperity,” added the President. She extended her heartfelt blessings to all the newlywed couples and wished them a happy and fulfilling married life. She appreciated Dhirendra Krishna Shastri and Bageshwar Dham Jan Seva Samiti for organising such a noble event, bringing joy to so many families. President Murmu said that India has set a vision to become a developed nation by 2047, as we celebrate 100 years of independence.

This vision is not just about economic self-reliance, but also about social harmony, environmental sustainability, and spiritual leadership in the world. In achieving this goal, modern-day saints have a crucial role to play. They can inspire people to work towards social unity, environmental conservation, and nation-building. She opined that all must preserve and apply rich knowledge traditions for national progress and human welfare. She encouraged citizens of India to keep moving forward with dedication and extended best wishes to all the newlywed couples for a happy and prosperous future.
