RAIPUR,
BJP Mayoral candidate Minal Choubey has announced a focused agenda addressing key civic issues, pledging to prioritise basic amenities such as sanitation, water, and electricity if elected. She assured voters that these fundamental concerns would be her first priority from day one in office during a Rubaru programme at the Press Club on Wednesday.
Choubey emphasised the financial support provided by BJP-led Central and State Governments to the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC). She highlighted her intent to complete pending projects like the AMRUT and Jal Jeevan Mission, stalled under the previous Congress-led administration at RMC.
Advocating for women’s empowerment, Choubey promised initiatives to promote employment opportunities for women. She also pledged to address city traffic challenges by streamlining traffic flow and organising the parking system.
To curb corruption within RMC, she plans to implement robust monitoring mechanisms. Recognizing the importance of property tax as a primary revenue source for RMC, Choubey proposed a 10% discount for timely taxpayers, encouraging greater compliance and improving the corporation's financial health. Choubey also touched upon public transport concerns, revealing plans to resolve these issues by introducing electric city buses. She stated that the central government has already sanctioned initial funds for a fleet of electric buses, with plans to expand the initiative if successful. On the challenges faced by Housing Board and RDA colonies, Choubey pointed out that while RMC is open to accepting these colonies, the delay lies in the transfer of development funds collected by these agencies. She pledged to study the issue in detail and facilitate a resolution if elected. Choubey acknowledged the strong competition within the BJP for the mayoral post and expressed gratitude for the opportunity. She reiterated her confidence that with double engine government and a BJP led administration in RMC, resolving civic issues would become easy.
