An eight-memberdelegation, led by Haryana’s Forest and Wildlife Minister Rao Narbir Singh, on Saturday, visited Balasaheb Thackeray Gorewada International Zoo in city. Haryana is planning to establish the world’s largest jungle safari in Aravalli region of Gurgaon and Nuh and the visit to Gorewada Zoo of the delegation was to witness the functionality of such a big zoo. Before the visit to Nagpur, Singh recently visited the world’s largest jungle safari established in Sharjah in 1,000 acres and now, he witnessed the Gorewada Zoo which is an epitome of modern zoo. During his visit to Gorewada Zoo, Minister with his team experienced the jungle safari in a safari van. The team witnessed all big cats like tiger and leopard and other herbivores too. Singh appreciated the efforts of the zoo management in proper maintenance of the zoo, informed Shatnik Bhagwat, Zoo Director to ‘The Hitavada’. The Forest Minister of Haryana also interacted with zoo staff and asked about the challenges they are facing while handling such a big zoo on daily basis. He also visited the night shelters of the wild animals and inspected the daily maintenance of animals there. The Haryana Government has formed an eight-member committee recently to oversee various matters pertaining to the proposed safari in the Aravalli region. The committee, headed by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden (Haryana), will supervise the firm that will undertake the detailed project report (DPR) with design and requirement of funds. After their visit to Gorewada Zoo, Shomita Biswas, Head of Forest Force, Government of Maharashtra informed the delegation about the Gorewada Zoo. Shatnik Bhagwat, Zoo Director, Gorewada spoke about the future projects of the zoo to the delegation. Along with Haryana’s Forest Minister, other officers like Raj Kumar, Ram Kumar, Virendra Singh and Sanjeet Bokan were also present.
