TALENTED city shuttler Shreeja Wankhede secured a gold medal in doubles category and silver in singles at the just-concluded Raisoni Foundation Yonex-Sunrise Sadabai Raisoni Memorial Maharashtra State Level Women’s Badminton Tournament 2025. The tournament was organised by the Nagpur District Badminton Association (NDBA) at the University’s Subhedar Hall.
In the U-15 girls’ doubles event, Shreeja partnered with Vidhi Saini of Ahmednagar to clinch the title. The duo stunned top-seeded pair of Sanvi Ghate and Sara Peshkar (Nagpur) in a thrilling three-game match, winning 17-21, 21-17, 21-16.
In the U-15 girls’ singles quarter-finals, Shreeja defeated second seed Sharayu Rewaskar with a commanding 21-7, 21-14 victory.
She then triumphed over third seed Sanvi Ghate in the semis, winning a closely contested match 21-19, 21-19.
In final, top seed Nagpur’s Vaishnavi Manglekar defeated Shreeja 21-10, 21-17.
Shreeja trains under Harshit Mandal at the Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Sports Complex Badminton Academy.
