In a shocking incident at the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) camp in Kharora, a constable shot dead an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) following a heated altercation late Sunday night. The victim, identified as ASI Devendra Singh Dahiya, succumbed to multiple gunshot injuries after being fired upon by Constable Saroj Kumar, who has since been arrested. According to preliminary investigations, the confrontation stemmed from an argument over the constable’s uniform turnout. Sources revealed that ASI Dahiya had allegedly reprimanded Constable Saroj Kumar for deficiencies in his uniform’s appearance and reportedly hurled abuses at him during the scolding.

“Initial findings suggest the altercation began after ASI Dahiya reprimanded Constable Saroj Kumar over his uniform turnout. The accused claimed he was insulted and abused, which escalated the situation,” said ASP Raipur Rural Kirtan Rathore. The heated exchange took a violent turn when Constable Saroj Kumar drew his service revolver and fired approximately 18 rounds at ASI Dahiya. Fellow personnel at the camp scrambled for safety, with several dropping to the ground to avoid being hit. Despite the chaos, other ITBP personnel managed to overpower the armed constable after a tense struggle. “The accused constable was restrained and tied with a rope before being handed over to the police,” confirmed ASP Kirtan Rathore.

ASI Dahiya was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. Authorities are now investigating the series of events that led to the fatal confrontation. While initial reports suggest the dispute arose from uniform turnout issues, officials are examining whether there were underlying tensions between the two personnel. “We are investigating all possible angles to understand what provoked such extreme violence within the camp,” said ASP Kirtan Rathore, adding that psychological stress and internal disputes will also be considered during the inquiry. Constable Saroj Kumar remains in police custody as further investigation continues.
