AIIMS Bhopal has conducted its 8th kidney transplant under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. This step reinforces the institute’s role in providing medical care and offering treatment for patients with end-stage kidney disease. The recipient, a 25-year-old male from Bhopal, had been dealing with kidney disease for three years and was on dialysis for one and a half years. His 31-year-old elder brother donated a kidney. The procedure was performed using a laparoscopic technique, which required a small incision in the abdomen. This method helped in reducing post-operative pain, quickening recovery, and leaving minimal scarring.

The donor was able to move around the next day. The entire transplant was carried out under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, ensuring medical care without financial burden on the patient. Professor (Dr) Ajai Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, congratulated the medical team and emphasised the importance of the procedure. He stated that the success of this procedure reflects the dedication of the team and the impact of organ donation. He also mentioned that AIIMS Bhopal remains committed to offering medical care and that the transplant program will continue to assist more patients in need.

The nephrology team was led by Dr Mahendra Atlani. The urology team included Dr Devashish Kaushal, Dr Kumar Madhavan, Dr Ketan Mehra and Dr Nikita Shrivastava. The anaesthesia team consisted of Dr Vaishali Waindeskar, Dr Sunaina Tejpal Karna and Dr Shikha Jain. Their efforts contributed to the completion of the procedure. AIIMS Bhopal continues to expand its transplant, ensuring medical care for those affected by end-stage kidney disease. The institute remains focused on providing healthcare services through its transplant initiatives.
