India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an ‘orange’ alert for thunderstorm with lightning in four districts of Vidarbha on April 2 and 3.
According to the Weather Department, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Amravati and Yavatmal districts may also experience gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and hailstorm in the next couple of days.
The Weather Department issued ‘yellow’ warning for all other parts of Vidarbha including Nagpur on April 2 and 3.
On Tuesday, due to cloudy weather, the maximum temperature dropped by 2-7 degrees Celsius in just 24 hours all over Vidarbha. Amravati witnessed a steep drop in day temperature by 7.2 degrees Celsius in just 24 hours. With 33.6 degrees Celsius, Amravati recorded the lowest maximum temperature on Tuesday. Nagpur witnessed the second highest temperature dip by 5.5 degrees Celsius in just 24 hours. Nagpur was 34.4 degrees Celsius. Except Bramhapuri and Chandrapur, all other places of Vidarbha recorded the maximum temperature below 40.0 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
In view of the forecast, people have been advised to keep a watch on weather and take shelter during thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning and follow traffic advisories in urban areas.
According to Weather Department, a cyclonic circulation lies over Marathwada and neighbourhood in lower tropospheric levels. Whereas, a North-South trough runs form above cyclonic circulation over Marathwada to north Tamil Nadu across interior Karnataka in the lower tropospheric levels.
Under the influence of these systems and confluence of moist winds from Arabian sea and Bay of Bengal in lower levels, thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds (speed 30-60 kmph) are likely over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Telangana, coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra during March 31 to April 4.
