Cyber police also searched offices of Ulhas Narad, Suraj Naik
Sadar Police, on Saturday, raided the house of Mahendra Bhaurao Mhaiskar (44), an accused teacher arrested in the bogus Shalarth ID Scam, and reportedly found documents of 56 school teachers there.
A team of Cyber Police also searched the office of Deputy Director (Education) Ulhas Narad and Suraj Punjaram Naik. According to police sources, around 300 teachers may come under the scanner in the bogus Shalarth ID Scam. Meanwhile, some quarters are mulling over handing over the case to a special investigation team.
Police had arrested Mhaiskar in the Shalarth ID Scam.
The court ordered to keep him in police custody till April
21. Police has been questioning Mhaiskar. It is alleged
that with the help of some
of the officials and employees of the Education Department, he had prepared bogus
proposals of many people. During the raid at Mhaiskar’s house on Saturday, police seized documents of 56 teachers. Also, documents of proposals of 22 allegedly ‘bogus teachers’ were seized by the police.
Mhaiskar is alleged to have facilitated recruitment of many ‘bogus teachers’ in Bhandara and Gondia districts. Of the 22 ‘bogus proposals’, one dozen documents have the signatures of Education Department officers, but the other documents do not have the names of the teachers and signatures of the officers concerned.
The other 56 documents recovered from Mhaiskar’s house, comprised D.Ed., B.Ed., and M.Ed. degrees. After the scam came to light, Mhaiskar probably did not submit these documents to the office out of the fear of getting caught. During interrogation, he told cops that he had hidden all the documents in a bag at his house.
Ulhas Narad and Suraj Naik also are in the custody of Cyber Police. On Saturday evening, a Cyber Police team conducted searches at the Education Department office in Dhantoli. Narad also was with the police during the search operation that continued for about two hours.
The police entered the ID and password in the office computer, which led to revealing of the ID and IP addresses of the teachers related to
the case.
