A liquor shop recently relocated from Mohania to Parshuram Basti in Gandhi Chowk, Ranjhi is now facing renewed protests. The shop had earlier been shifted following strong opposition in its previous location, but the move has sparked fresh demonstrations, led by local women. The protesting women have warned of self-immolation if the shop is not removed. Meanwhile, some local leaders claim that the shop is situated far from the residential area and alleged that certain groups are provoking people for political reasons. It is also learnt that the protest has gained support from member of a Hindu organisation and Congress leader. On Sunday, a large number of residents of Parshuram Basti, including many women gathered in front of the liquor shop and shouted slogans, demanding its closure.

On learning about the protest, police from the local station reached the site to control the situation and maintain peace. Protesting women said the presence of liquor shop is affecting their daily lives. Children are reportedly afraid to attend school or tuition classes due to the presence of drunk people who often misbehave along the route. Women also find it difficult to step out safely, especially in the evening hours as anti-social elements gather and engage in theft and harassment. The strongly insisted that the shop should be moved to more suitable location. It may be noted that this is not the first time this liquor shop has faced opposition. Just a few days ago, BJP leaders had staged a protest when the shop was opened in Manegaon.

They alleged that that it was too close to a densely populated area and a nearby school. Concerns were raised about the safety of children using the road near the shop. Following the earlier protest, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Ranjhi had visited the site and assured demonstrators that their concerns would be forwarded to the Excise Department. He had also promised that a request would be made to relocate the shop. Following that assurance, the shop was moved to Gandhi Chowk, Parshuram Basti. However, local residents in the new area are now raising the same concerns and demanding that the shop be relocated to more suitable place.
