Veteran Actor, Nagpurian Dr Vilas Ujwane passed away in Mumbai. His demise left the theatre world in mourning. Dr Ujwane, who created a special place in the hearts of the audience through popular serials like ‘Char Divas Sasuche’, ‘Damini’, ‘Vadalwaat’, and Marathi and Hindi movies, passed away at the age of 62. He breathed his last on Friday, while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mira Road, Mumbai. Last rites will be performed on Saturday.
Dr Ujwane did his schooling from C P and Berar High School, Mahal. Later on, he did his junior college education from Mohota Science College. He did BAMS and shifted to Mumbai to pursue his long cherished dream of becoming actor.
Dr Ujwane left an indelible mark in the Marathi and Hindi film industries
with his acting. His effortless acting style made him a favorite actor of the audience.
Along with positive roles, his villainous roles were also very popular. Dr Ujwane's passing has created a huge void in the Marathi theatre, film and television industry.
Dr Ujwane had been battling a serious illness for the past few years. A few years ago, Dr Vilas Ujwane had suffered a brain stroke, which seriously affected his health. Dr Ujwane also started experiencing heart problems. He also faced financial difficulties during this illness. As his financial situation deteriorated, in 2022, a close friend of his had appealed through a social media post to help him financially.
Dr Ujwane had established himself as a sweet-natured and warm-hearted actor. Many co-stars, directors and fans have expressed their condolences over his demise. His memories and contributions will always be remembered.

Akhil Bharatitya Marathi Natya Parishad, Nagpur President Ajay Patil expressed deep grief over the demise of Dr Ujwane. “Those were the days when Nagpur used to witness one-act play competitions. It provided several theatre personalities and Dr Ujwane was one of those,” said Patil in his condolence message. He prayed God to provide strength to the family of Dr Ujwane to bear the irreparable loss.
