Gaurav, Shri, Tanish win golds

NAGPUR’S Gaurav Pudke, Shri Jangupta and Tanish Warkade clinched gold medals in the 20th Vidarbha Junior and Sub-Junior Powerlifting Championship for boys and girls in progress at MLA hostel in Civil Lines, on Saturday. The event is being held under the aegis of Nagpur District and Vidarbha Powerlifting Association. Gaurav and Shri were way ahead of their rivals in their respective 53kg and 83kg weight groups in the sub-junior men category while Tanish picked his yellow metal in the 120kg group. Gaurav, with a body weight of 53 kgs, lifted a total of 392.5 kgs much more that the second and third placed Akola guys Jay Aahuja and Ajay Suralkar who both lifted an identical 300 kgs.
 
In the 83kg group, Shri, who weighs 78.5 kg, lifted 435 kgs. Vivek Dhanwe and Sanket Bade, both of Buldhana, won silver and bronze with 350 and 265 kgs total lifts respectively. In the 120kg category, Tanish lifted 300 kgs. In 66kg group, Nagpur’s Shahid Sheikh and Akola’s Roshan Tayde were tied with total lifts of 367.5 kgs but the latter was declared winner and Shahid had to be content with silver. Umar Sheikh, also of Nagpur, won bronze 365 kgs. Other medal winners include — 59kg: Supesh Rakhunde (Buldhana), Tushar Jadhav (Akola), Chaitanya Hirulkar (Amravati). 74kg: Om Charhate (Amravati), Rupesh Kanoje (Nagpur), Amar Pawar (Wardha). 93kg: Sikandar Yadav (Chandrapur), Aditya Mandale (Yavatmal), Swapnil Kawre (Amravati).
