As the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced three-language
policy at class 6th from this
academic session of 2026-27,
parents of the state are grappling with uncertainty, confusion, frustration and nervousness about future of their children.
At present, some of the schools have introduced Chhattisgarhi as third language while in urban areas such as Raipur and Bhilainagar, many CBSE schools have introduced French and German as third language.
Due to this decision by the schools, parents are much
worried and want a clear picture regarding it from the authorities
of CBSE.
Even some of the parents and parents’ group in the schools have approached CBSE regional office in Raipur but were not satisfied with the reply from authorities of the board. Many parents were of the view that the board has executed this policy without proper planning as well as strategy.
“We are not against languages and it is a good initiative that children will learn multiple languages”, said Dr Amit Samuel whose daughter is student of class 6th in Delhi Public School.
But he questioned, but how do CBSE authorities introduce a new subject when there is no textbook of that language, no trained teachers and no clarity on assessment?
A recurring worry is what parents call the “English Dilemma”. While the policy motivates two Indian languages, parents argue that English remains essential for higher education and career in the modern era of globalization.
Parents with central government transferable jobs are also worried as frequent relocations across different states mean children may have to restart learning a new regional language every few years.
“My child has already studied two languages in last three years and now he will have to study multiple languages,” pointed a central government employee. Vibha Jha, CBSE coordinator of the state stated that it is new policy to teach multiple languages to the students. The board has started it from this session so it is taking some time to release textbooks and other resources.
