Summer is tightening its grip over Madhya Pradesh as temperatures across the state continue to hover above normal levels. According to the latest data, heatwave conditions are expected to prevail at isolated places in the several districts and an alert has been issued for Raisen, Narmadapuram, and Chhindwara. The alert also extends to several other districts, including Gwalior, Morena, Bhind, Datia, Shivpuri, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Satna, Mandla, and Balaghat, all of which are currently under the ‘Yellow’ category, indicating that citizens should remain vigilant. The State witnessed largely dry weather over the past day, with the exception of isolated light rainfall in the Jabalpur division, specifically in the Seoni district which recorded 1.2 mm. A significant ‘warm night’ was also recorded in Narmadapuram, where the minimum temperature stayed notably high at 28.9°C. Strong gusty winds swept across the region as well, with Sheopur recording speeds of 44 kmph, followed by Sagar at 43 kmph and Bhopal at 41 kmph. While maximum temperatures did not see a jump, they remained 1.6°C to 2.1°C above normal in Bhopal, Rewa, Shahdol, and Sagar.

Khajuraho and Narmadapuram emerged as the hottest spots in the state, both recording a blistering 43.0°C. On the other end of the spectrum, the hill station of Pachmarhi remained the coolest with a minimum temperature of 14.8°C. In the capital, Bhopal, the maximum temperature was recorded at 40.2°C, which is one degree above the seasonal average. The current weather pattern is being influenced by a Western disturbance and a cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan. Additionally, a wind discontinuity line is stretching from Marathwada to the Comorin area, which is keeping the atmosphere unstable. The Meteorological Department has warned of a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 3°C to 4°C over the next five days. For Bhopal, the sky is expected to remain clear with maximum and minimum temperatures hovering around 42°C and 24°C, respectively. With the heat intensified by a heatwave warning in several districts, authorities have suggested several precautions for citizens to stay safe. People are encouraged to drink plenty of water, ORS, or buttermilk and avoid going out between 12 pm and 3 pm. When outdoors, it is advised to wear light-coloured, loose cotton clothes and use umbrellas or hats for protection.
