THE State Government has
moved to tighten oversight on private school fee structures,
with Chief Secretary Vikash Sheel
authorising district collectors to
ensure strict enforcement of
fee regulation provisions
across State.
In a communication issued to
collectors, the Chief Secretary
has directed that the
Chhattisgarh Self-Financed
Schools Fee Regulation Act, 2020
be implemented in letter and
spirit. The directive follows
reports that certain private institutions are charging fees beyond
permissible limits, placing financial strain on parents.
Under the provisions of the
Act, which came into force on
August 26, 2020, each private
school is required to constitute
a School Fee Committee. The
committee is empowered to
approve annual fee revisions, but
such increases must remain within a maximum ceiling of 8 per
cent over the previous academic year. In cases where fee revision exceeds the prescribed limit, prior approval from the District
Fee Regulatory Committee is
mandatory. Authorities have
been instructed to ensure that
no school implements such hikes
without due authorisation.
The Chief Secretary has
emphasised the need to operationalise fee regulation committees in all institutions and
strengthen monitoring through
designated nodal principals.
These nodal principals, who are
also members of the School Fee
Committee, are expected to coordinate with district authorities to
ensure compliance.
