THE State Government has moved to tighten oversight on private school fee structures, with Chief Secretary Vikash Sheel authorising district collectors to ensure strict enforcement of fee regulation provisions across State. In a communication issued to collectors, the Chief Secretary has directed that the Chhattisgarh Self-Financed Schools Fee Regulation Act, 2020 be implemented in letter and spirit. The directive follows reports that certain private institutions are charging fees beyond permissible limits, placing financial strain on parents. Under the provisions of the
 
Act, which came into force on August 26, 2020, each private school is required to constitute a School Fee Committee. The committee is empowered to approve annual fee revisions, but such increases must remain within a maximum ceiling of 8 per cent over the previous academic year. In cases where fee revision exceeds the prescribed limit, prior approval from the District Fee Regulatory Committee is mandatory. Authorities have been instructed to ensure that no school implements such hikes without due authorisation.
 
The Chief Secretary has emphasised the need to operationalise fee regulation committees in all institutions and strengthen monitoring through designated nodal principals. These nodal principals, who are also members of the School Fee Committee, are expected to coordinate with district authorities to ensure compliance.
