In a major decision benefiting power sector employees, Energy Department of Madhya Pradesh has increased the retirement age of line attendants from 55 to 62 years, aligning them with other staff. The move addresses long-standing dissatisfaction among employees who were being retired earlier than their counterparts. The department has also resolved persistent pay discrepancies affecting contract-based testing assistants. This step is expected to boost morale among contractual workers who had raised concerns over salary inconsistencies for a long time.

The orders have been issued to all key power utilities, including Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company, as well as the state’s Poorva, Paschim and Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Companies and the Power Transmission Company for implementation. Rakesh DP Pathak, General Secretary, Madhya Pradesh Vidyut Karamchari Sangh Federation, welcomed the decision, calling it a major relief for both line attendants and testing assistants. He noted that issues related to premature retirement and unequal pay had negatively impacted employee morale, which will now improve with these corrective measures.

With the revised policy, line attendants can now serve up to 62 years, while contract testing assistants will receive improved remuneration along with due increments. The federation expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, Energy Minister Pradyumn Singh Tomar and senior officials for addressing these concerns. It also urged the government to regularize contractual workers and provide 50% reservation to outsourced employees to ensure their long-term security.
