‘Guard of Honour’ accorded to Dr Raina as medical fraternity mourns loss

Offering emotional tribute to a life dedicated to healing, medical fraternity mourned the loss of Dr V K Raina, a renowned Pediatric Surgeon, on Friday. He passed away at the age of 81. Known for his unwavering ‘Patient First’ philosophy, Dr Raina’s final act of servic\e has left an indelible mark on society. As, in his final act of generosity, Dr Raina donated his body to Anatomy Department, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College for medical education and research. Dr Raina, a retired veteran of the NSCB Medical College, chose to bypass traditional funeral rites to ensure his mortal remains would continue to serve the cause of science.
 
By donating his body, he has provided future generations of medical students with the ultimate gift of knowledge. Body of departed soul was kept in front of Dean’s office for public to pay their last respect. In recognition of his lifelong selfless service and his final contribution to humanity, Dr Raina was accorded a ‘Guard of Honour’ with full state honors. This rare tribute underscored the immense respect he commanded within the administration and the medical community. Collector Raghavendra Singh also attended the service and paid his tribute to Dr Raina. He said that Dr Raina has immortalized himself through this noble and difficult resolution.
 
His personality and dedication will forever provide a new direction to our society. The farewell was attended by the stalwarts of the medical world, who gathered with heavy hearts to bid adieu to their mentor. Dr Navneet Saxena, Dean, Dr Pradeep Kasar, former Dean, Dr Arvind Sharma, Superintendent and Dr Rajesh Tiwari, former Superintendent also offered their tribute to Dr Raina. His colleagues remembered him not just as a surgeon who saved countless young lives, but as a visionary who paved the way for future doctors even in death. Dr Raina’s departure marks the end of an era, yet his legacy continues to breathe through the students who will learn from him and the lives he touched throughout his illustrious career.
