In a late-night combing operation, the Crime Branch arrested two young men and seized lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) drugs and other valuables worth over Rs 4.37 lakh. The operation was carried out in the early hours of Friday in Jaitala area.
The raid was conducted around 3.30 am in front of a house in Badge Layout, near Gandhi Clinic, within the jurisdiction of MIDC Police Station.
The arrested accused have been identified as Kunal Giri Suresh Giridhanarthi (22) and Dipesh Devidas Bohre (22), both from Gondia district. They are currently living in rented accommodation in the MIDC and Pratap Nagar areas and are studying at Raisoni College.
Police said the team from the Crime Branch was conducting routine combing and patrolling when they noticed the duo behaving suspiciously near a motorcycle. On searching them, officers recovered 17 LSD ‘dot’ stickers (blotters) weighing 0.170 grams. The estimated value of the seized LSD is Rs 1.70 lakh.
Apart from the drugs, police also seized two mobile phones, one moped, and a Pulsar motorcycle.
During the investigation, the names of another accused, Anubhav (22), a resident of Vaishali Nagar in the MIDC area, surfaced. He is currently absconding and efforts are underway to trace him.
According to police, the case has been registered under Sections 8(c), 22(b), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Under the guidance of DCP Detection Rahul Maknikar, and ACP Abhijeet Patil the action was made by Crime Branch Unit No. 6, along with the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) and women personnel from the Bharosa Cell.
