A PROUD moment for Nagpur and Indian gastroenterology as Dr Saurabh Mukewar, Director and Senior Consultant at Midas Hospital, has won the World Cup of Endoscopy at the World Endoscopy Organisation (WEO) International Meeting in Cape Town, South Africa.
The achievement came at ENDO 2026–the 5th World Congress of GI Endoscopy, where leading experts from across the world gathered to share advances and innovations in digestive endoscopy. Dr Saurabh Mukewar personally presented the Midas case at the international forum ‘EUS-Guided Occlusion of Portosystemic Shunts in Patients with Refractory Hepatic Encephalopathy’.
In simple terms, the procedure involved using advanced endoscopic ultrasound technology to identify and close
abnormal blood vessels that were allowing harmful substances to bypass the liver and reach
the brain.
The presentation was selected among the top seven endoscopy videos from across the world for the World Cup segment. Dr Mukewar presented the case before an international audience of endoscopy experts, and the presentation went on to receive the World Cup of Endoscopy winner recognition.
Dr Saurabh Mukewar said, “It is a very special moment to present this work on an international platform and receive the World Cup of Endoscopy recognition. This achievement reflects the possibilities of advanced EUS in managing complex clinical conditions and the importance of continually exploring innovative approaches for our patients.”
